Bibliotherapy
Through the “Action List” in the game everyone writes how they can make their lives, others’ lives and the world better as inspired by the story they share. Because you can play with ANY story you can use a book that is about a person or family sharing the same issues as the family being counseled as a source of inspiration or a new way of looking at an old problem, Bibliotherapy. Now it is so easy to look for great books, complete with reviews concerning any issue under the sun. A parent can share a favorite novel he had as a child or together they can read one of the child’s favorites to gain perspective and appreciation for each other and to see problems in a new light. Through the “Action List” in the game everyone writes how they can make their lives, others’ lives and the world better as inspired by the story they share.
A Diagnostic Tool for Parents and Counselors that Reveals Emotions, Events, Perspectives and Paradigms
The game is a diagnostic tool for parents or counselors that reveals emotions, daily events, surprising perspectives and shares paradigms.
Each question ignites responses to the plot, characters, themes and settings of the story shared. Players share their life experiences, past, present and predicted for the future as they relate to the story shared and respond to those of the other players. In addition to the major comprehension levels, the game also covers all of the emotions as they relate to what was read and the players’ own week’s events. The reactions of the players to the events of their own present week and to the characters and plot of the story shared reveal many insights into each one’s paradigm, or viewpoints and keys of understanding that can be vital to effective therapy and deep understanding of issues. Because the conversation is through a story it is much easier to get into issues and each players’ feelings as opposed to a conversation that is directly between people and lends itself to be confrontational.
Resource for Positive Quality Family Time Reflecting Lessons of Life
The Book Club Game is a resource for positive quality family time reflecting lessons of life. The game provides the counselor with a resource for positive quality family time to use at home that not only promotes positive family interaction but teaches and reinforces positive communication skills, builds comprehension skills, and engages the family in reading. The game offers the family amazing booklists of literature where many of life’s issues are uncovered. Again, ANY book with the same issue that the family is experiencing can be used. The questions in the game are an invaluable resource that empowers parents and children to dig deep gathering the meaning and purposes of each story and of life itself. As these generic questions are internalized a heightened awareness of connections and universals evolves revealing how literature is but a reflection of life where much can be learned. There is a part of the game where the players actualize these lessons by writing an “Action List” with specific actions they can take to make their lives and the lives of others better as inspired by the story.
