Build Comprehension, Communication and Reading Motivation

The Book Club Game, its editions and Reading Companion Journal Guides are motivating board and card games and Journals designed to build and reinforce comprehension, communication, and a genuine love for reading. Their research-based activities and strategies are aligned with many of The Common Core Standards, developing them simultaneously.

The Book Club Game, What’s The Big Idea? and The Reading Companion Journals offer the teacher strategies that make reading come alive and allow participants a chance learn about themselves and each other through the literature by igniting the highest levels of comprehension. Both the questions and the booklists give teachers resources for their own teaching purposes as well as for their students and parents. Players internalize the questions to maximize their comprehension and become motivated readers as they become aware of how relevant reading is to learning and their lives. The game can be played with any book, although reading the booklist books is another sure way to motivate reading as they are great page-turners and knowing them helps the players win the game. An exciting feature is that the game can be played with all ability levels allowing for nonreaders or weak and beginning readers to participate and build comprehension right along side their better reader classmates. The games are a perfect tool for classroom centers and “book clubs”. They facilitate students to deeply think about and share a story, exchange books, list book suggestions and glean inspiration to make the world better from each story.
