Vocabulary Building Component Builds Comprehension
Both The Book Club Game, its editions and The Reading Companion Journal for Grades K-6 have a
fun Vocabulary Building Component to build comprehension where new words gleaned from the story offer a way to blast off ahead in the game. Vocabulary words then can be gathered on a pocket vocabulary ring for easy retrieval and consistent practice. They can also be collected on a word wall.
Generic Questions Transfer to Maximize Comprehension Before, During and After Reading; Players generate their own knowledge level questions
Generic questions that can be used for any story are unique to the game and journals. These are different from specific questions about the story that tend to dissect a great story until it is not enjoyable. These are the higher level, critical thinking questions as well.
(Bloom’s Taxonomy) After playing the game a few times players begin to internalize these generic questions as they become proficient readers. Teachers, parents, teens and children internalize these generic questions that maximize reading comprehension and motivation through the games and journals, an invaluable resource.
Instead of being bombarded with specific fact finding questions, players or journalers generate their own specific questions engaging in this highly effective and transferable strategy for grasping the fine details of their reading (writing the test or becoming the teacher).
