 The
Book Club Game and The Book Club Game Extension Activity Booklet
are a culmination and reflection of 25 years of study, teaching,
parenting,
and leading book clubs. The idea of using games to teach is not new.
For me it began back in the 70’s when at the University Elementary
School at UCLA using worksheets was a forbidden act and all our teaching
strategies had to be motivating, fun and at the right level of difficulty.
Game format was highly encouraged. It was then that I realized you
could invent a game for just about anything that needed to be taught
and I really loved doing just that. Learning and teaching through
my games and my student-created games became exciting, motivating
and
much more efficient than traditional learning strategies.
